Pallet racking inspections are critical to ensuring your employees’ health and safety and your warehouse’s productive functionality. As in-use racking meets the demands of a busy warehouse and suffers wear and tear, regular checks will ensure incidents are avoided and that employees are working in a safe environment.
Under the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER), pallet racking is classed as work equipment and is therefore subject to inspection.
Said assessment is the warehouse racking inspection, an HSE racking legislative review that must form part of your risk assessment and happen annually at a minimum. Marked on a traffic light system, our SEMA Approved Rack Inspectors (SARI) carry out the racking inspections look at each racking element to determine a ranking against them of Red – high risk, Amber – medium risk and Green – low risk, respectively.
The racking inspector will work through their racking inspection checklist, looking for damage, twisting, missing items, over-loading and other factors that negatively impact the racking functionality and safety.
We will provide a material list of components identified for corrective action/replacement in our pallet racking inspection checklist, regardless of manufacturer.
In most cases, we can then provide a no obligation proposal, to replace the damaged/missing components needed to rectify the integral structure of the racking.
SEMA guidelines suggest you should have at least one inspection from an expert every 12 months, but you should also run regular inspection checks on a weekly or monthly basis by your own company. Our Rack Safety Awareness Courses help your staff understand everything they need to know about operational best practices, how to recognise damage early on to save time and money, and how best to correctly report problems.
